This novel comprises ten stories, each pervaded by a moral. They are “sewn” one onto the other, around the card game that unites grandmother and grandchild over the passing of years. A game that will prove to be a source and occasion for teachings that remain indelible in the mind and heart of the child, the adolescent, and the young man who in the end feels the necessity, at the moment of separation from his maternal grandmother, to record with pen and ink, that which she gave him with “that deck of cards.” An intimate and moving novel which tells of the relationship between a growing boy and a “special” grandmother.
